On January 15th, 2023, the reform of Mexico’s General Law on Tobacco Control, better known as the Anti- Tobacco Law, entered into force.
This new regulation extends smoke-free environments to all places considered to be highly attended, including outdoors, and prohibits the direct or indirect display of related products.
According to Article 65 Bis.- The following are considered spaces of collective concurrence: patios, terraces, balconies, amusement parks, playgrounds or places where children and adolescents stay or congregate, urban development parks, sports, beaches, show and entertainment centers, courts, stadiums, arenas, shopping malls, markets, hotels, hospitals, health centers, medical clinics, places or places of religious worship, places of consumption or service of food or beverages, transportation stops.
Therefore, from now on smoking will not be allowed in patios, terraces, balconies, hotels, beaches, entertainment centers, restaurants, bars, among other public sector spaces, which must be complied with in each of our resorts in Mexico: Riviera Maya, Costa Mujeres and Vallarta.
While we are confident that the new regulation will have a positive impact on our guests’ health, especially children and teenagers, we also know that this may affect tobacco consumers. For this reason, we will be designating specific areas in each of our properties, which must be physically separated from the rest and at least ten meters away from the place of congregation where services, such as food and beverages, are provided.
The ideal spaces for this purpose have already been defined, as established by the Mexican authorities and with the aim of affecting our clients as little as possible.
